Labdarugok :

Lap of Honour :

When a team has won an important tournament, members celebrate by completing a lap of the stadium to show their fans the cup.

Last Man :

Name given to the player -apart from the goalkeeper- forming the final obstacle between an advancing player and the goal. If a player in this position commits a foul (even one not in itself meriting a yellow card) he can be sent off immediately. This rule came into effect at the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

Laws of the Game :

The essential rules of association football as designated by the International Board. There are seventeen Laws, covering: field of play, ball, number of players, players equipment, referee, assistant referee, duration of play, when the ball is in play or out of play, how to score, offside, fouls, free kick, penalty kick, throw-in, goal kick, and corner kick. Also see: regulations. The Laws of the Game apply to all member countries of FIFA.

Laying the Ball Off :

This term describes the action of a player receiving the ball under bad conditions -- height, speed or both --and passing it to a teammate under perfect conditions for making a goal.

League :

Competition or championship in which each participating team plays all the others, normally twice, once at home and once away, for points which are added up to decide the winner of the championship, which is the team with the most points at the end. Traditionally, two points were awarded for a win, one for a draw, but it began to be felt that this system encouraged conservative, speculative tactics, impoverishing the spectacle. In order to foster more attacking football, therefore it was decided to award three points for each victory, though in the case of some leagues this additional point is only awarded for victories by a minimum of two goals. The results of this change have still to be seen.

League Table :

List of all the teams which take part in a League Championship, ordered according to the number of points they have won, and also including games played, goals for and against, wins, draws and defeats, as well as other statistical details showing a teams performance in numbers. The position of each club in the competition can only be fairly judged when all teams have played the same number of matches.

Leap :

Jump that players make to dispute a ball in the air or avoid a sliding tackle from an opponent.

Leave :

Play in which the player in possession of the ball, without breaking his run, leaves it for a teammate coming up behind him.
