Obstruction :

Foul committed when a player places himself intentionally between the ball and the opponent when the former, through his distance from the ball or position, cannot play it. Penalised with an indirect free kick, the infringement is one of the most controversial and difficult to establish, being a passive action.

Occupied Zone, Championship :

During World War II, German-occupied France organised its own League Championship from 1940 to 1944.

Offside :

The most controversial aspect of the game of football. A player is in an offside position when he or she has crossed an imaginary line running parallel to the by-line determined by the position of the last defender (excluding the goalkeeper) or the ball. This does not cause the game to be stopped unless a player in an offside position attempts to play the ball or intervene in play in general. If the ball is passed to a player in an offside position, play is halted and the opposing team is awarded a free kick. However, for this to occur, a player must be in an offside position at the moment the ball is played, after which he or she is considered on side and can receive the ball in any position.

Olé :

A Spanish term for a shout adopted from bull fighting into the world of football in which the losing visiting team takes the place of the bull. Chanted by the home supporters each time their winning team leaves the opposition looking ridiculous with some movement or pass.

One-touch :

Passing movement or style of play in which the ball is played immediately to a teammate.

One-two :

The passing movement where a player in possession of the ball passes to a colleague, runs forward and immediately receives the ball back, usually to circumvent an opponent. Also know as a wall pass.

Olympic Village :

Place where the members of delegations are accommodated. Host cities generally take the opportunity to build new residential areas of quality for such occasions.

One-legged :

Players practically exclusively right- or left-footed, all their skill packed into one leg to compensate for the other, useful only to keep him on his feet.

Opponent :

Name given to the team in which a match is being played against, confused by some with the enemy.
