Quadriceps :

Large muscle in the front of the thigh, which is, in reality, as its name suggests, actually divided into four parts, with four independent upper insertions that join below in the quadriceps tendon. This muscle, which plays a basic role in the extension of the leg, is one of the most important involved in the action of making a shot at goal, for instance.


Queso :

Name given by the terraces in South American grounds to a useless, awkward player.


Quick :

Conjunction of reflexes, velocity and ability required to resolve situations on the field of play.


Quilombo :

In southern Argentina, a scramble that takes place in the area. Also applied to teams and institutions where disorganization reigns and where no one is sure who is responsible for taking decisions.


Quiniela :

Name given in Spain to the method of betting on the results of football matches. Stemming from a peoples game (it was played in offices, markets, neighbourhood), today it has been formalized in almost all countries where football enjoys wide popularity although it has different names in each one. For example, in Italy its called totocalcio and in Argentina, prode (prognósticos deportivos or sporting forecasts). The takings and prize money are considerable, sometimes exceeding the lottery and other games of chance.


Quinta :

Name in Spanish given to a generation of players who have risen up from the lower categories of a club. Of military origin in which the recruits are grouped together by year of birth. The most famous in Spain was the Quinta del Buitre (from the player Butragueño) which included him, Martín Vázquez, Michel, Sanchís and Pardeza who, in Real Madrid, rose up together into the First Division. One of the clubs greatest eras is due to them.
